AIYS at 40 Years

The American Institute for Yemeni Studies (AIYS) is celebrating its 40th anniversary. Founded in 1977, the first office in Ṣan‘ā’ was opened in 1978 under the directorship of Dr. Jon Mandaville. During its 40 years AIYS has supported American, other foreign and Yemeni researchers with fellowships and assistance for permits through its Yemeni counterpart, the Center for Research and Studies. Despite the current conflict and humanitarian crisis, AIYS continues to offer fellowships to Yemeni scholars and promote all fields of Yemeni studies.

Throughout this year we will celebrate the anniversary with postings on our AIYS Yemen Webdate Blog.  As posts are published, they will be indexed on this page.

We encourage anyone who has used the facilities of AIYS or benefited from assistance to send their reflections and photographs for posting on the AIYS Yemen Webdate Blog. Please send these to
